Google web fonts is a repository of hundreds of awesome fonts that are specifically designed for web. These fonts are hosted on google.com and can be easily used in your website by adding few lines of CSS or JavaScript in your webpage. All these fonts are offered under Open Fonts License so you can use it even in your commercial projects without any licensing.
Install Google fonts on your computer
You can download all these fonts to your system and use them in your Office documents or anywhere else as these fonts are offered under Open Fonts License. All you just need to do is to select your favorite fonts and download the collection of selected fonts to your system. Once you are done with downloading and installing fonts, you can use them.
Download Google Fonts
You've two options to download Google Fonts to your computer.
1. Download all fonts
You can download all Google Fonts to store them locally just open googlecode.com and download the whole fonts directory using web copier tool like HTTrack. The size of whole fonts directory is more than 500 MBs. So, it may take time depending upon your internet connection speed.
2. Selective download
This is more promising approach instead downloading hefty sized directory of all fonts. Google allows you to select your favorite fonts and add them to a collection. Once you are done with the collection, on the top right corner click the Download your collection link that will download a zip file of fonts in TTF format.
Unzip the collection and copy the TTF fonts to your fonts directory. Now you can use these fonts on your system in any word processing softwares like Microsoft Word, Open Office, etc.
It is always advisable to attach a copy of your google fonts with your documents when you are sending it to someone else. It might be possible that the fonts you used in documents or presentations are not available on someone else's computer.
You can also bookmark your favorite fonts collection as a url and share it among your friends by clicking Bookmark your collection link on top right section.
