Migrate Google Reader To Feedly and Set Feedly as Default RSS Reader

Posted on March 22, 2013
Lately, Google announced shutting down of Google Reader service. It's no doubt that Google Reader is the most used RSS reader as of now. However, there are good alternates available in the market. Feedly is one of the strong contender. Let's see how to migrate from Google Reader to Feedly.

Importing your Google Reader account

Feedly has already seen an influx of over 500000 Google Reader users just in 48 hours of shutting down announcement of Google Reader by Google.

Importing your Google Reader feeds to feedly is straight simple. All you need to do is, login to your feedly using your Google Account. Rest of the importing process will be manipulated by Feedly itself.

To cope with all the new users and their feedback, Feedly has upped its bandwidth by 10x, added new servers and launched a suggestion forum for new features.

Update to the RSS Subscription Extension by Google

The RSS Subscription Extension has also been updated by Google lately. The updated version has removed Google Reader and iGoogle from the list of default feed readers. Here is the description by developer for the same.
This extension auto-detects RSS feeds on the page you are reading and upon finding one will display an RSS icon in the Omnibox, allowing you to click on it to preview the feed content and subscribe.
The extension comes with 2 feed readers predefined (Bloglines and My Yahoo) but also allows you to add any web-based feed reader of your choice to the list.
Feedly as default RSS Reader in RSS Subcription Extension

You can easily set Feedly as default RSS Reader in RSS Subscription Extension for Chrome by Google. Once you are done with the setting default RSS Reader as feedly, your sub-sequent RSS subscription will be subscribed in Feedly by default! Check the below animated GIF image that shows how to add Feedly to the Readers list in the aforementioned extension.

Copy & paste this url http://www.feedly.com/home#subscription/feed/%s[action.subscribe in the URL box while adding Feedly to the Readers' list in extension.
